What is the "Create New Opportunity" option?

I now see the option to “create a new opportunity” in addition to a new project in the system. What is the difference between creating “a new opportunity” vs “new project”? Where would/do these “new opportunities” get filed to? I’m looking for a place to put other consultants/partner vendors that I work with so I’m wondering if this might be a fit. (For now, I’m adding in consultants with a specific contact form and the have a specific “phase/outcome” in my project pipeline to save all these contact forms/individuals).

@Wendy Jeffries -  Not sure if you are still interested in this or not but I thought I would try to help. From my experience, here’s how the “New Opportunity” feature differs from creating a traditional “New Project”:

🆕 New Opportunity:

  • Designed for earlier-stage interactions or inquiries that haven’t turned into full-blown projects yet.

  • Offers a way to track potential leads, networking contacts, or vendors you’re engaging with—but without setting up the full structure of a project.

  • You can later convert these into Projects if the relationship moves forward.

  • It’s especially useful for pipeline planning or relationship tracking when you’re not quite in “booking” mode yet.

📁 New Project:

  • Best used when there’s an active lead or confirmed client.

  • Gives you access to Smart Files, scheduling, payments, email history, and all the tools you need to manage a client from inquiry to final payment.

Using Opportunities might be a great fit for tracking partner vendors or consultants—especially if you want to organize their info without setting up full project files. You can even tailor your pipeline stages (like “Vendor Contacted” or “Awaiting Collaboration”) to better organize these relationships.

That said, this feature is still relatively new, and HoneyBook is always evolving—so if you’re looking for specific functionality or visibility across both projects and opportunities, I definitely recommend sharing that feedback through support or the feature request portal! Hopefully a help doc will be created soon on this!
