Anyone else add a collaborator to a project and they receive personalized payment reminders they can't pay?

I added a collaborator to a project and they received a late payment reminder directed to them by name, even though they are not on the contract. I submitted it to a support ticket and was told I should also post about it here…

Anyone else have this issue?

@Lauren Miller - Thanks so much for sharing this—and you’re absolutely right to raise the concern. I’ve seen this come up more frequently, especially in projects where vendors or collaborators are added to the same workspace. Unfortunately, as it stands now, HoneyBook doesn’t restrict automated payment reminders solely to the billing responsible client, even though that would make total sense given how proposals are structured.

Adding vendors as collaborators in the same workspace can unintentionally trigger project-wide notifications like payment reminders, even when they’re not listed on the contract—which creates confusion and can definitely feel unprofessional from the client’s perspective.

Would a separate workspace for vendors help?

Creating a separate project/workspace just for vendors could help isolate communication and document sharing, but it’s definitely more of a workaround than a perfect solution. It could help prevent them from receiving payment-related notifications, but you’d also lose the ability to keep all project-related details in one thread. So it’s really a matter of whether the extra organization outweighs the communication confusion for your workflow.

This is definitely a feature I’d recommend submitting (or upvoting) in the Ideas section of the Community—something like:

“Restrict payment emails/reminders to only the Billing Responsible Client, not collaborators.”

I truly believe that kind of refinement would help improve the overall client and vendor experience within HoneyBook. 💛

Hmm, I haven’t run into that myself or with any of my clients using HB. Hey @Diana - The Finer Points do you know anything about this happening to your clients? Trying to help @Michael Moyer out!

I have the same issue/complaint. We already have to select the “billing responsible client” when forming a proposal, so any payment reminders should only be sent to that client. Would be a quick and easy solution to this problem.

I add vendors as collaborators to the workspace so they can upload documents, and several of them have been very confused as to why they are getting emails, addressed to them, requesting payment.
