What do I use if I need a client to book a paid session and also agree to a service agreement in a templated way? Is this a lead form or a smart file or something else?

If the client already has a project started in your HoneyBook account, I would create a proposal Smart File that includes an invoice, payment, and contract. If they’re totally new and you just want to send them a link to book (the Smart File would send via email), then create a Lead Form!

First, important to note that you cannot add Contracts to a Lead form. If you use a lead form, you’ll want to create an automation that sends them the contract after they pay and book. The other workaround is to include a question where they have to check a box agreeing to your terms.
You can set up the file in one of two ways…

  1. Lead Form - I recommend this if you don’t require a discovery call before someone pays for a session. Good examples might be mini-sessions for photographers, or consulting sessions for business consultants or coaches. You can have a Welcome/Services page, Invoice, Scheduler, and Payment page. You can even add your questionnaire directly here. (Here’s an example of mine: https://clientportal.premieropsspot.com/public/HoneybookConsulting)
  2. SmartFile - if you like to have a discovery call or free consult before sending a proposal to someone, you can create this in an All-in-One Smart File. The pages will be the same as in the Lead Form, but you’ll be able to apply this SmartFile directly to a project using the black “create file” button from inside the project. In this case the Contract can be a separate page before the payment page.

Sometimes you may want both options, so you can make the paid sessions available easily for new clients from your website, AND to be able to send to existing clients. In this case, what I recommend is actually building this in a SmartFile FIRST. This enables you to take those pages from the SmartFile and add them to your Lead Form. A great time saver!

In this case you’d open your Lead Form and click “Add Page”:

Then click on the SmartFile you want to pull from:

Then choose the actual page you want to add:

Hope this helps!
