Cancellation Addendum

Hi everyone! I’m working on creating a cancellation addendum for my Event Agreement, and I’d like to pull in a smart field for the actual date the client signed the contract (the "[Execution Date of Underlying Agreement]"). However, I didn’t see that specific field in the dropdown options. Is there a way to pull that date (or similar data) into the cancellation addendum?

For reference, here’s the text I’m working with:

AMENDMENT
TERMINATION AND RELEASE OF EVENT AGREEMENT

This Amendment (“Amendment”) to the Event Agreement entered into on [Execution Date of Underlying Agreement] (the “Agreement”) is made and entered into as of [Execution Date of Amendment] (the “Effective Date”) by and between [CUSTOMER NAME] (“Customer”) and [SERVICE PROVIDER NAME] (“Service Provider”). Collectively, Customer and Service Provider may be referred to as the “Parties”.

Thanks in advance for any insights or suggestions!

@Rob Nicpon - Great question—this is such a smart way to keep your cancellation addendum aligned with the original agreement!

While the system doesn’t currently include a default smart field for the execution date of the original contract, a great workaround is to use a Custom Field Type. You can manually create a field in your Smart File called something like “Original Agreement Date”, and then insert it into your template using the custom smart field option.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. In your Smart File, click into the text block where you want the field to appear.

  2. Click “+” > Smart Field > Custom Field.

  3. Create a new custom field named something like “Execution Date of Underlying Agreement.”

  4. When sending the file, you’ll be prompted to enter that specific date, and it will populate wherever the smart field appears.

🧠 You can read more about how to set up and manage custom project fields here:

It’s not automatic like some system fields, but it’s a reliable workaround for referencing key contract dates in follow-up documents. 💛
