When preparing project proposals, I structure client payments into two installments of 50% each: the first installment is due upon booking, and the second is due prior to the event date with mandatory autopay to ensure a seamless process and avoid payment delays. Additionally, I offer clients the option to include a gratuity.
However, I recently discovered an issue: if a client opts to add a gratuity to their payment, it is only applied to the initial deposit rather than the total project amount. This means the gratuity (e.g., 20%) is calculated solely on the first payment and not evenly distributed across both installments or based on the total amount.
I reached out to HoneyBook support, and they confirmed that there is currently no workaround for this issue. This seems like a significant limitation, as gratuity should logically apply to the full project total, not just the deposit.
Does this make sense? I believe this feature could greatly benefit both businesses and clients by streamlining gratuity calculations and providing a more accurate representation of payment expectations.
