Question

How to paste images/screenshots in smart files?

I LOVE smart files for my clients, because sometimes my deliverables can be text heavy or long. I can make interactive docs/guides via smart files and they really help break things up into manageable chunks.

My biggest point of friction currently is adding screenshots to smart files. I previously used Google docs and could paste from my clipboard and continue on. With smart files, I have to save each screenshot, add an image block, and upload (and hope I remember where I saved it 😅).

So is there an easier or faster way to get screenshots into smart files? Bulk uploading might help sometimes, but I often need to retake screenshots so I’m hoping for another option.

Aha! Experimented a bit and found a workaround.

I can paste my screenshots into Google docs, write what I need to write, copy from the Google doc, and then paste in a text block in a smart file.

I don’t love this, and would like to move away from Google docs entirely, but it will work for now!

Well, the pasted-from-docs images didn’t stick, so not really a workaround. 😅

Hey Ashlee! Can you try using the process found in the pinned comment here? I did a screen recording last week with a process that should work. Feel free to send me a test email at monica.rodriguez@honeybook.com and I’ll see if I get the images :)

Hi @Monica R! This is for a smart file, not email, but that comment is what inspired me to try copy/pasting from a Google Doc into a smart file already. Unfortunately the images aren’t sticking around after a period of time, or potentially after logging out and back in.

Ohhh, got it. Thank you for that clarify. I’ll let them team know that the work around is specific to email and not smart files and hopefully something can be added to the roadmap to help with images in smart files :)

Hey Ashlee! Before I respond in full, I do need some clarity on the following:

  • Where are these screenshots coming from originally?
  • Are they actual screenshots or images you took/created?
  • Are you putting them into this doc?
