Payment settings based on service type

​@Abigayle Curtis -  Great question! You're correct that HoneyBook currently includes all line items in the subtotal when calculating percentage-based payment schedules, which means things like mileage or add-ons get included, even when you don’t want them to be part of your retainer calculation.

💡 Here are two workarounds that may help:

1. Send Mileage as a Separate Invoice
This is the most reliable option if you want to keep your 50% retainer tied strictly to your service fee. You can send the mileage invoice separately, either before or after the event, and keep your main invoice clean for retainer/payment plan purposes.

2. Add Mileage Later as a Manual Add-On
If your mileage charge isn’t known upfront or is subject to change, another option is to send the main invoice (with your 50% deposit setup) without mileage. Then, once the service details are finalized, you can edit the invoice and manually add the mileage amount before the final payment is due.
