Hi all - this is my first year using Honeybook and I’m preparing for tax season coming up.

I see here in the docs that tax forms (1099-NEC and 1099-K) are generated by HoneyBook in January, but don’t see an email or place to download it yet. How have these tax forms been shared in the past and around what timeline? Thank you! ✨

Hi @Wildscape Media just to confirm, do you meet the criteria for the tax forms? I know there was some confusion initially since there were changes to 1099 and reporting to the IRS set to take effect that got pushed back.

If you know you should have received a form (transacted more than $20k on HoneyBook or earned income in a state with a lower 1099-K threshold than the IRS, and met that threshold or earned more than $600 in referrals) and didn’t, just comment back and I can create a support ticket for you so our team can help.

To be clear, Honeybook CS has no clue. I reached out to them before the end of the year and they told me I wouldn’t receive one (even though Square always sent me one in the past) because I didn’t meet both $20,000 in transactions and 200+ transactions. I live in Missouri, where state law requires we get a 1099 from card processors if we have over $1200 in card transactions processed, which is why Square always issued me one. Honeybook told me they wouldn’t be issuing one and weren’t aware of any state requirement forcing them to. Imagine my surprise when I received a 1099 a couple weeks ago. Thankfully I hadn’t filed my taxes yet.

Hi @Kait M thanks for your response. I live in WA state and looks like the threshold is $20k for the 1099-K form, which we did not meet in 2023 as our first year in business.

However, could you help me understand what “1099-NEC: You earned $600 or more in HoneyBook referrals in the year” means? Is this based on referring others to HoneyBook and earning more than $600 in payments? Or something else?

@Megan Curtis thanks for sharing your experience 🙏  Now given this new information I’m not clear on our to report our earnings for our biz taxes if we don’t receive a 1099. Maybe I need to consider getting the Square app for 2024.. any tips or suggestions? Will def consult an accountant and tax professional but curious if you have knowledge and previous experience as a biz owner.

Thanks all!

@Wildscape Media that’s a great question. That’s based on referring others to HoneyBook and earning more than $600 in payments so it looks like you are good in not needing a 1099 this year.

However it’s definitely important to be aware of especially as @Megan Curtis shared—each state is different and the changes this year created a bit of confusion. Megan, glad it worked out in the end that you hadn’t filed your taxes but I am really sorry that was your experience. Is it okay if I surface your experience to our team to make sure we improve for 1099 season next year?

That would be great. I had reached out to CS through chat and also tried to create a post in 2023 in the FB group. It wasn’t approved, but Esther reached out to me via email. I’m happy to share any of those communications if it is helpful.

Hi @Kait M I know that I reached the threshold and have not yet received my 1099 form for this year. Could you help me with starting a claim ticket as I am not sure how to do that?

Thank you!
