Time Zone Question

When creating a new project there is an option to choose a time zone. I live in the PST/PDT time zone, but a lot of my clients are in EST, however, they location we often times are working in (because I’m a photographer that travels) is MST. Which time zone should I select for the project? My time zone, the client’s, or where the project will take place?

Thanks!

Hello Tiana, Michal from HoneyBook here.
I would go with the timezone of where the event is taking place, but you can go with any of the options, and I’ll explain why. The project dates have an effect on the following:

  1. Smart fields in Smart Files (mainly within a contract) that can be linked to the project date(s) and displayed in the file.
  2. Custom payment scheduling in invoices (X days before/after a project starts/ends).
  3. Automation steps that rely on project dates.
  4. And finally, the way the project appears in your calendar.

For the first use, in Smart Files, setting it to the location’s timezone is the less confusing option, as you should all meet there at the same local time.
For uses 2 and 3, the timezone doesn't matter much, as the actions are based on UTC time anyway.

For #4, the calendar: Calendar event times are automatically shown based on your current location, so whatever timezone you pick for the project, the event is displayed in the calendar by your location.

So, as the timezone setting can be easily modified from within the project, you can change it repeatedly as you move between time zones if it makes it easier for you to view. Still, for minimal hassle, it is probably best to go with the common meetup place time.

Let me know what you think!
