Hi everyone! As you may know, Google and Yahoo are updating their spam filters. These changes go into effect on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Most of the changes impact people who send at least 5,000 emails in a day (across all email tools) but there are also implications for senders using a custom domain as Google and Yahoo begin enforcing stricter requirements.

If you are using a custom domain to send emails, you need to ensure your SPF and DKIM domain records are configured correctly. Otherwise, the chances that your email communication will end up in your client’s spam folder are higher.

There are two resources we’ve put together to make sure you are compliant with these changes:

  1. You can test if your SPF and DKIM protocols are properly configured by using our domain testing tool, which can be accessed from the integration tab in your account. For more information please consult our Help Center.

  2. In December, we put together a comprehensive blog post outlining the changes and how to ensure your email behavior follows the new requirements. You can find that post on the HoneyBook blog, with the most up-to-date information available.

  3. The upcoming changes also require commercial emails to contain an unsubscribe header and an unsubscribe link. We are rolling out a feature to support members with this requirement. By tomorrow (2/1) you will be able to mark emails as commercial and add the option to unsubscribe.

We have emailed all HoneyBook members who are sending emails using a custom domain and who have either not used or not completed the domain tester. The email outlines the actions you should take to set up your SPF and DKIM records.

If you did not receive an email from us, you have either successfully checked your SFP and DKIM records using our domain tester, in which case we encourage you to continue using the domain tester to check your domain records, or are not using a custom domain to send emails through HoneyBook. Please consult the Help Center article and blog post for more information.

We know that many of you have already gone through configuration and verification processes with a variety of tools that integrate with your custom domain. In addition to the tools we’re providing, we encourage you to help each other and share any resources that have helped you navigate this change.

Kait,

Thanks for this.  I did not receive (unless I missed it) the email you mention above.

However, I did receive a message on my Honeybook:

DKIM not signed
There is no DKIM signature included in email headers

I am looking for the values to add to my TXT DNS records:

Name

Value

Can you help with that?

Louis Laster

Thanks for the information!  I am about 1 hour in trying to get the “DKIM not signed” error fixed.  This status has been like this for over 6 months.  My email provider is Microsoft Office.  Is this a known issue, as I have not seen any impact in over the past 6 months.  However, I don’t want to chance anything.  Is there someone that can help me resolve this?  This is beyond my working knowledge, as I am deep into DNS and all.  I have followed all steps within HB and GoDaddy (which uses Microsoft 365, as the email engine).

Please help or advise.

@Susan Finn and @Louis Laster I’ve gone ahead and created support tickets for both of you and triaged them to our email team so they can take a look at your specific use cases and help troubleshoot. So glad you both commented so we can help get this sorted out for you!

Dallas Pridgen

I’m absolutely illiterate with the jargon being used on how to fix this. Between my square space and this, I need someone to hold my hand and tell me how to do this and explain it to me like I’m in kindergarten. 🙃

Thanks Kait….I received a comment via chat with my HB Account.  I will try again, but the comment tells me contact Microsoft…..Is this the resolution to the ticket that you entered @Kait M ?  I will try to generated a DKIM signature now.  I am hoping to get this resolved.  I guess if this doesn’t work, I will contact GoDaddy/Microsoft.

@Louis Laster that is the ticket I entered, so the next thing you will need to do is contact GoDaddy/Microsoft. Good luck and we hope they are able to provide you a solution!

Louis Laster

So, after a couple of contacts with GoDaddy, we have cleaned things up and now my DKIM is being signed.  So, problem solved.  It was getting REALLY technical, but I understand the challenge.  I would have never figured it out, but I am that much smarter now 😀!!

Basically…..login into GoDaddy…..get to the Microsoft Defender Portal…..Request a DKIM Key (or better yet call them and have GoDaddy Mail the key)…….cut and paste into the GoDaddy DNS Settings and you are done…..Easy Right??? 😲

Just noticed the error message on my backend. I’m still at a loss.

Hi @Kait M  - what about users with a custom gmail domain that’s hosted in Namecheap? I’m also having issues (see attached)

@Tashonta Fairman I would recommend reaching out to support if you haven’t yet so they can take a look at your integration and advise best next steps.
