Credit card authorization form -- does anyone have a template they want to share?

It’s great that we can include contracts, generate invoices and collect payments through HB, but in many of the templates in the Template Gallery, I don’t see a credit card authorization form/clause.

Are you including a separate credit card authorization form in your Smart Files? Or, how are you confirming with the client/prospect that they are authorizing the charge of their credit card when they are submitting payment?

I hope this makes sense and thank you in advance for anyone who shares!

Hi! This question is making me think. I suppose my understanding is that CC Auth forms were from way back when we got a credit card in person and swiped it with that back and forth machine ... remember that?? Am I aging myself? Lol.

I believe when the client is making an online payment you don't need an auth form because the client is inputting their info. Whereas when we took it on paper and ran it manually ( oh boy, I remember batching the credit cards at night!!) We needed permission from the client to run the card.

I'm interested what others have to say though!

Thanks, Cassie, for your thoughts!

Does your contract include language around payment and payment methods? Specifically, around exactly what you’re saying -- that the client, by submitting the payment by bank transfer or credit card through Honeybook, is authorizing the charge (and/or any future charges) for your services?

I appreciate the reminder about the good ol’ days. Want to be sure I’m protected as a business owner!

Hi @Beth Nakamura , I have language around refund policy and late fees, but nothing about authorizAtion for charges. Another of my favorite features of HB is that you can pull the Payment schedule from the invoice onto the contract very easily, so that the client is agreeing to that particular schedule and amounts. Honeybook doesn't allow us to keep a card on file and charge it any time we want - we can only do that through recurring invoices. So again, by paying the customer is agreeing to purchase, just like they would on Amazon or any other website.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Cassie for the feedback! Glad you feel comfortable with HB’s built-in processes.

For legal/liability reasons for my business, I do want to have credit card authorization forms that clients complete as we make our way through the project and working together. I’ll use what HB currently has to build something that works for me!

I was wondering about a credit card authorization form as well. When doing work for my clients I have them approve items like stock images, tech stack tools, website hosting as well so that they know the costs and frequency but many times I am setting these up for the clients so that I do not have to rebill them from having to pay for these ongoing subscriptions/charges on my own credit first.

What are the rules around having them complete a credit card authorization form that lives in the honey book system so that we can process approved charges on their behalf?

Well, you can customize your invoice and put the statement they are authorizing payment with the type payment they usually use instead of a form. I have seen statements on documents such as this.
