Hi all!

I joined HB in September as I launched my travel advising and event planning business, Kilohana Events and Travel (IG: @kilohanaevents). I’m currently based in San Antonio and have lived in Boston, New York, Phoenix and Arlington (VA). I’m a #milspouse with 20+ years in higher education event planning. I’ve taken my talents to start my own business (congrats to all of us!) and am excited to connect and learn from all of you.

My business superpower is living in the intersection of events and luxury travel. As a home-based entrepreneur, I am available to travel to destinations with my clients to coordinate and host their events.

My definition of success in my business is two-fold: 1) working with clients who want to work with me; and 2) partnering with my clients to create memorable and enjoyable events and/or trips!

#eventplanners: If you’re ISO assistance with site selection, let me know! I’m happy to help. And, if anyone in the HB community wants help with their #travel planning, I’d love to help with that, too.

Happy New Year! 🎆

Congrats on your business launch! Also, thanks for your service. I am retired USAF and understand very well how much the spouses and family endure.

@Beth Nakamura  I use Honey Book for my wedding bakery business, but my husband and I recently signed with a host agency - we're hoping to retire him from his corporate job with our new business in a few years. Are you using HB for both event planning and as your CRM and to send itineraries for travel as well? Or are you using something like Travel Joy or Tern that is geared toward the travel industry?

I love the thought of just adding another business to HB since I am used to how everything works, but I can definitely see the advantages of not having to import photos, flight info, etc. in one of the travel specific applications. Would love to hear your thoughts!

@Sweet By Design Cakes -- thanks for reaching out!

I use HB for client onboarding + planning fee payments and Tern for itinerary management + client payment authorization. As I enter year four of my business, I finally feel settled with my multiple tech platforms for my business. IMO, the travel industry is administratively complex (processes and liability being two significant factors) and I don’t think there is a one-size-fits-all platform out there yet.

Also, HB’s processing fees are significantly lower than Tern’s and a huge reason I won’t commit to just one platform. 😉 I think your familiarity with HB will make the client onboarding process smooth and then you’ll have to decide which travel itinerary platform you want to use.

Here’s my Tern referral code: http://try.tern.travel/6GbVqn. New users (who don’t yet have an account) get a 14-day free trial and a $20 discount on the first month of their Tern membership.

I’m happy to chat about this in more detail as you set up your travel business -- feel free to reach out directly: beth@kilohanaevents.com.

Welcome to the industry!
Beth

PS: Since my initial post, we moved to Washington, DC!
