Question

One Project, Two Invoices, One Signature?

Ameliorate

I am desperate for this feature -- or any potential workaround!

I work on a month-to-month retainer basis but would like to offer an incentive for clients who pay 3 months in full, and then move to a month to month basis. I require autopay and bill on the same date of each month, depending on when they start working with me.

My clients are wildly busy and I do NOT want to chase them down to sign again or re-up their agreement. This would easily be solved if projects would allow us to have 2 invoices with different payment dates. Has anyone come up with a workaround?

Hi @Ameliorate,

I see what you’re trying to do! What about creating an automation that takes care of it for you? Here’s how I’d go about it:

  1. Create 2 invoices with enforced autopay:
    • 1 x standard with a payment plan that reflects the first payment/installment - use the project start date as an anchor for that payment being due
    • 1 x recurring one for the rest of your retainer - use the project start date as an anchor here too, just ask for payment 90 days after the project start date
  2. Set up an automation that you can apply to these client projects from within project workspace that:
    • Sends the first invoice immediately and sets the expectation on when the next one is coming
    • Then waits 90 days and sends the second invoice, starting them on recurring payments for the rest of the retainer

How does this feel as a set up? Let me know if this is helpful!
