Ability to Disable Autopay Option in the Payment Widget

I asked support about this and it’s not possible right now.  Support has put it in a s feature request but they asked me to also post it here in order to collect reactions from others in the community.

My Use Case

My clients pay in 2 installments (½ upfront and ½ just prior to me launching their website.  I do this so I can be assured of full payment before the site is live.)

The Payment Widget

The Autopay option appears automatically in the payment widget and is not able to be hidden.  So it’s offering my clients the ability to autopay something that doesn’t exist yet.  And, there is no date for when the 2nd installment is due because that depends on when the site is ready.

Why It’s a Problem

  • It’s not logical because there is nothing to autopay
  • It’s confusing to clients because our contract explicitly states that the 2nd installment is due when the site is ready to go live.
  • It won’t even work because support has told me that it won’t do anything unless there’s a due date on an upcoming payment (and in my use case, there is not a date).

So, this is a bad user experience for my clients.

Hey there! I agree that being able to toggle on/off the autopay feature (so that clients themselves aren’t able to self opt-in) is smart. When we design websites, we have the 2nd payment set to a milestone of ‘final delivery’ and have had clients select autopay and when it comes time to request that final installment they think they’re set to autopay it (when that’s not how milestone payments work).

@UsabilityMedic I would encourage you to add this as an IDEA that can be upvoted. Right now your post is shared within a specific community group to chat about the Pay Link feature which is a specific (and different) feature altogether from what you’re describing. To ensure your feature request gets the love it deserves, please add it as an IDEA by using the + Post > then select Idea.

I would like to disable autopay because honeybook charges us more if the client has saved their credit card on file:

  • Visa or Mastercard: 2.9% + $0.25
  • American Express or Discover: 3.4% + $0.09
  • Card on file (autopay / saved card): 3.4% + $0.09

Hi @UsabilityMedic, @Matthew Eriksen, and @Maya Normandi,

Yes! Love this. I didn’t find anything like this in the Feature Requests, so I went ahead and made one. Feel free to upvote below so the developers know this is something us users want!

@Kaitlyn Blair I did discover on an invoice-to-invoice basis you can disable autopay - also, in Company Settings, you can disable card on file, which i recommend everyone does to avoid higher processing fees!
