One-time fees AND recurring charges on same invoice

I’m going to try again with a quick thought that might help…

The easiest way to do this is to build your payment schedule so your one-time fee is added as a single payment, then create a recurring payment for the items you want billed on a regular cadence (monthly, weekly, etc.). Each payment in the schedule can have its own amount and billing structure.

If that's what you're trying to accomplish and you're still running into issues, can you share a little more about your setup? For example, are you trying to invoice a one-time onboarding fee plus a monthly retainer? Knowing your workflow will help the community point you in the right direction.

​@Alicia Bauer yes, I want to create a proposal template for a service. The first month needs to collect the monthly retainer as well as the onboarding fee but then the months following only need to charge the monthly retainer fee. 

​@Olivia Walker - Yes! Now that I know exactly what you're trying to accomplish, I think I would set this up a little differently.

I would create your Proposal template for the initial booking with both the one-time onboarding fee and the first month's retainer included. That allows the client to complete the proposal, contract, and initial payment as part of that first booking experience.

Then I would create a separate invoice template for the ongoing monthly retainer and set that invoice up with recurring monthly payments for the remaining months of the service.

You could also build this into an Automation so you aren't manually creating everything each time. Once the initial proposal is completed/paid, your Automation could send the recurring retainer invoice at the appropriate point in your workflow.

So essentially: Proposal = onboarding fee + month one retainer. Recurring invoice = months two and beyond.

I think separating the initial onboarding payment from the ongoing billing will make the setup much cleaner, and once you have both templates and the Automation built, you can reuse the same workflow for future clients.
