Are you killing off Expenses just to make us sign up for a checking account through you?

You just released expenses in May 2024 and it was one of the reasons I signed up. I liked not having to use Quickbooks to track things.

October 2024 Honeybook announces they are “sunsetting” expense just 6 months after promoting it. The suggestion is we pay Honeybook for a new checking account instead.

Honeybook offering a service that costs us money to replace a service that was free.

I don’t need another checking account. I like having a real, local bank.

Aren’t the $400 a year subscription I already pay and all the transaction processing fees enough?

Hi @DudeistJon! I’m Kaela from the Product Specialist team.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I completely understand how frustrating it can feel to have a feature you’ve grown to rely on change. We hear you, and I want to acknowledge how valuable the expenses feature has been for your business, especially as you’ve integrated it into your tax workflow.

When we made the decision to sunset expenses as a standalone feature, it wasn’t made lightly. The previous Expense tracking feature was not performing at the level we aim for. While HoneyBook Balance is a checking account, it’s about more than just that—it’s about simplifying business finances all in one place. For example, you’ll have access to tools that automatically categorize card spending expenses and track business finances in real-time. These benefits are all included at no additional cost, and we hope they (and future product enhancements) will bring even greater value than the standalone expense feature.

We truly appreciate your business and your trust in HoneyBook, and we love hearing feedback from our members. Your insights are invaluable to us, and we’re committed to incorporating feedback like yours into future versions of HoneyBook Finance.

Thank you again for your feedback and your continued partnership with HoneyBook.

How about you give the customers the choice to use keep using expenses or sign up for the new bank card?

Hi @Jennette Le! Thank you for your suggestion! We acknowledge that this shift may feel abrupt and even unfair, especially for those who don’t yet have access or genuinely are not interested in the financial tools we are offering.

We never want our members to feel forced into something that doesn’t fit their needs, and your feedback is crucial in helping us improve how we communicate and make future decisions—particularly with our finance products! So thank you, again, for voicing your concerns. We are listening, and value this feedback!

I’m extremely unhappy about this! Especially at the end of the year when I’m getting ready for taxes. Now all of my expenses are GONE! No bueno, HoneyBook! No bueno!!!

I don’t use quickbooks to track my expenses, I use HoneyBook.  Now I have to pay quickbooks and get a checking account through HoneyBook.  This change may be enough for me to search for a new crm that offers expense entry and reports.

This is disappointing !

If we choose to integrate Quickbooks with HB using our existing bank accounts instead of the new HB checking account, what does that look like on the HB end? How useful are the features for tracking our income and expenses through the HB portal with the Quickbooks integration? I have a new business and I anticipate getting very busy starting this week, so I have to have a solution one way or another NOW - not in 3 months when I’m past the restriction.

@Nicole Mueller-Uri the features for tracking income integrating Quickbooks with HB and a non-HB bank account would still be very beneficial for you. As long as your existing bank is also connected to Quickbooks and that’s the same bank you are receiving HB payments to, all the functionality is the same.

We just relaunched our QuickBook Integration in October that you can read more about here in the product updates area. I would recommend reading through the updated documentation on integrating with QuickBook using your existing bank account. The improvements we made are mostly how information is sent to QuickBooks so it makes tracking on the Quickbooks side easier. The expenses portion would be all native QuickBooks functionality.

We also opened up the closed QuickBooks beta group we ran here on the community to any community member so you can learn from the conversations between the Finance team and beta members. You can access that here.

I hope this helps as you prep for the busy season ahead!

I believe this is just a move to force people to let them have more control over our money so I have already started looking. 17 Hats and Studio Ninja are my front runners at the moment, then use Wave or Xero for bookkeeping. The subscription costs will be the same or lower and I am not forced to use any companies bank account.

I hate quickbooks….with a passion. I just signed up for Honeybook because all over the internet it said I could track expenses. This is what I want. Now I come to find out this feature is gone and I’m not one of the lucky ones to get invited to the honeybook banking option. This really is a bummer because I also do not want my expenses tracked in real time and all that.
